I have been to the banks of Dod Hill quite a few times as I love a wander around the crags above Langleeford. But it's a pretty decent walk around the crags and because I also wanted to bag the Heddon Hill trig point too, then I had always left this for another day.
For this one I parked in a little grassy area in Ilderton and headed up from this way. If you see this sign next to the parking, you're in the right place.
There is a clear permissive path all the way over Heddon Hill with just a little diversion to bag the trig point.
As I descend Heddon Hill I get my first glance at Dod Hill. My first thoughts were - "Boy, that still looks a canny walk away". I was doing a bit of a tour trying to bag a few hills out of the way today and didn't think this one was that far.
Fortunately this is all on well signposted permissive paths right the way to the bottom of the hill. After that you just need to pick your way to the top.
It's a bit of a boulder graveyard up here, but I finally arrive at a cairn which I think marks the summit.
Glorious views from up here especially of Cunyan Crags and Dunmoor Hill. Once done, I head back the way I came and on to the next hill bagging.
Follow the route above or find it on OS Maps. Just under 5km to get there and 291m of climbing. You could probably avoid a bit of climbing by using the path around Heddon Hill, but why would you, as then you would miss out on the trig point!

There is a little parking area for a few cars next to the gate, but please don't block it.
