The Cheviots

The Schil

Climb up 605m to bag The Schil in The Cheviots.

The Schil

Sitting at number 6 of the tallest hills in the Cheviots, The Schil is no shrimp. It rises up to 605m so can hold it's own on the border ridge.

As you might have read, I love something on top of a hill signifying its peak and The Schil has a chunky cairn at the peak.

To get here, park at Mounthooly Bunkhouse (you'll need a College Valley day pass), then if you want the quickest way to the top, then head a little north, before picking up a faint path to the top.

But the best way is to head south from the bunkhouse and then walk up the Hen Hole, along to Auchope Cairn and then past Birnie Brae.

Route map data could not be displayed.

Follow the route above or find it on OS Maps. The quick way is aroud 1.7km and 343m ascent.
